Peoria, Ill. – Junior Holly Cavalluzzo placed seventh in a 267-woman field on Friday to lead Oregon State to an 11th-place finish in a 30-team field at the Bradley Pink Invitational.
Cavalluzzo finished the 6,000-meter Newman Golf Course layout in 20 minutes, 50 seconds. It was the second-fastest 6K of her career, better only by the 20:40 she ran at the Washington Invitational on Oct. 2 in her most recent race. She has been OSU's top finisher in all four racesx this season.
Freshman Juliana Mount made her varsity debut and placed 40th in 21:36. Junior Samantha Lewis was OSU's No. 3 runner, as she placed 50th in 21:43; OSU's other scorers were junior Morgan Anderson (65th, 21:51), and junior Adrienne Demaree, who took 122nd in her 2015 debut in 22:21.
"Holly had another great race," OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said. "Juliana ran her first varsity race and and did great. Samantha had her best college race ever.
"Morgan was very solid and Adrienne opened her season just seven seconds off her all-time best."
Also running were juniors Maureen Tremblay (139, 22:29); Macaulay Wilson (156, 22:48), and Monica Anderson (218, 23:26).
"They had steady efforts," Sullivan said. "It was a great trip."
The Beavers scored 284 team points. Illinois State edged Oakland 162-170 for the team title. Redshirt sophomore Kristiane Width, OSU's No. 2 runner, was held out for precautionary reasons; OSU would have finished third had she run and performed at her usual level, Sullivan said.
Some of the Beavers may compete in the Oct. 23 Beaver Classic at Avery Park. The top runners will continue training in preparation for the Pacific-12 Conference championships, set for Oct. 30 at the Colfax Golf Club in Colfax, Wash., hosted by Washington State.
