Collins scores in setback to Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. – Oregon State freshman quarterback Seth Collins rushed for 56 yards and scored on a 17-yard scamper on Saturday in a 44-7 setback to Arizona in a Pacific-12 Conference game at Arizona Stadium.
Collins scored on dash up the middle with 10:59 left in the second quarter, capping a 12-play, 88-yard touchdown drive, OSU's longest of the season. The extra point by Garrett Owens cut Arizona's lead to 13-7 but the Beavers were unable to get closer. Collins upped his team-leading rushing total to 362 yards.
Senior tailback Storm Barrs-Woods added 60 yards on nine carries with a long run of 20 yards to lead the Beavers (2-3, 0-2 Pac-12). They rushed for 151 total yards and averaged nearly five yards an attempt in the Pac-12 Conference game.
Barrs-Woods became just six sixth back in OSU history to run for more than 2,500 yards. He increased his career total to 2,505 yards and needs just 48 more to pass Dave Schilling (1969-71) for fifth-place all-time.
Junior Victor Bolden and sophomore Jordan Villamin had three receptions apiece. Collins and redshirt freshman Marcus McMaryion combined for 12 completions for 98 yards.
Sophomore safety Justin Strong had a team-leading six tackles to lead the defense. Junior linebackers Kyle Haley and Ricky Ortiz set career highs with five tackles each and senior defensive end Lavonte Barnett had a sack.
The Beavers play at Washington State on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game at Martin Stadium that will be televised by Pac-12 Networks. Their next home game is an Oct. 24 Homecoming matchup with Colorado.
