Chelsea Saelee Fires 1-Under 70 At Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – Chelsea Saelee fired her third career round in red figures, a 1-under 70 on the opening day of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Friday, and the Oregon State women's golf team is tied for 14th place with rival Oregon with 36 holes to play.
The Beavers shot a 12-over 296 at the par-71, 6,130-yard Stanford Golf Course in the opening round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament. UCLA shot a 5-under 279 to lead the 17-team field over host Stanford and Northwestern, which both finished with a 2-under 282.
The field includes five of the nation's top-10 teams, including No. 1 Washington, No. 4Stanford, No. 5 Northwestern, No. 6 USC and No. 10 UCLA.
Saelee had four birdies and three bogeys en route to her 1-under 70 for the best round of her junior campaign. Her best career round is a 2-under 70 at last season's Westbrook Spring Invitational and she also dropped a 1-under 71 in the second round of the Rose City Collegiate a year ago. Saelee had carded three 1-over 73's this fall season with two of them at the Oregon State Invitational and one at the Rose City Collegiate.
Senior Anica Yoo and freshman Hannah Swanson both opened the tourney with a 4-over 75 and junior Ashlee Pickerell shot a 5-over 76 to make up the Beavers' scoring. Sophomore Krissy Peterson added a 7-over 78.
After the first 18 holes, Saelee is tied for 13th place on the individual leaderboard, while Yoo and Swanson are tied for 64th, Pickerell is tied for 69th and Peterson is tied for 77th.
Bronte Law of UCLA fired a 6-under 65 to hold the clubhouse lead ahead of Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse and Pepperdine's Alina Ching, who both shot a 4-under 67.
The second round will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with tee times off the first and 10th holes. There will be live scoring on birdiefire.com.
