CORVALLIS, Ore. - Camille Saxton set a career-high with eight service aces, then most by an Oregon State volleyball player in more than two decades, to lead the Beavers to a four-set win (25-13, 25-14, 19-25, 25-14) over Colorado Friday night at Gill Coliseum.
Saxton added 17 kills to pace the Beavers to their first Pac-12 Conference win. Oregon State improved to 11-4 on the year and 1-2 in league play while Colorado dropped to 11-4 overall and 1-2 in Pac-12 matches as well.
Saxton's eight-ace performance was the most for the Beavers since Julie Leamon's seven against Portland on Nov. 14, 1989. Saxton was just two behind tying the school record of 10 set by Tammie Rogers on Oct. 29, 1981 against Washington.
"We were very focused and we won the serving and passing battle," Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. "Camille had a great match in serving and passing. She had eight aces; that's outstanding. And we hit well. When you hit .300 as a team, you're going to do well."
Saxton was the lone Beaver to record double figure kills but she was backed up by Katelyn Driscoll, who, making her first career start, finished with nine kills.
Megan McBride had 35 assists in the win while Haley Clarke was credited with five blocks, all assists, as Oregon State tallied 12 overall. Colorado had just five blocks.
The Beavers hit .301 as a team - their highest mark of the season - while holding the Buffaloes to a .140 clip.
Alexis Austin led Colorado with 15 kills.
Oregon State hit a robust .520 in the first set to claim the 25-13 win. Saxton had four kills and four service aces during the frame. Colorado was held to a .161 hitting percentage.
Oregon State had another strong set in the second frame for the 25-14 win. Saxton added two more service aces and the Beavers hit .406 for the frame.
The Buffaloes won their lone set in the third frame, 25-19. Colorado hit .226 while the Beavers were held to a .030 percentage.
The Beavers ran out to a 9-2 lead in the fourth set and put away the Buffaloes with the 25-14 win. Oregon State picked up the set win with a strong .303 hitting percentage while Colorado managed a -0.71 percentage.
Oregon State returns to action Sunday when hosting Utah at 11:30 a.m. PT. The match will air live on Pac-12 Networks in the state of Oregon.
