PERSONAL—Born 10/19/80 in Las Vegas, NV...son of Lloyd and Lisa Seigler...his father is a welder...lives with his grandmother, Nancy Kittleson...has five brothers and three sisters, Bobby, 20; Kevin, 19; Shon, 16; Lloyd, 12; Leah, 10; Lona, 9; Lawrence, 7; and Liza, 6...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a sociology major...enjoys basketball and fishing...Allen Iverson is his favorite athlete...signing a letter of intent to attend OSU was his top athletic thrill as a prep...selected OSU because, “a chance to play in the Pac-10 and with Coach Dennis Erickson.”
OSU—(2002—Junior)—Richard enters his junior season with 23 straight starts...he has started every game he has played in at Oregon State...he has produced 623 career defensive points in two years and will crack the Beavers' career top 25 list this year when he goes over 700 points...he has 165 career tackles (109 solo), four sacks and 24 tackles for loss...he has caused a fumble and recovered two...he has broken up 12 passes and intercepted three...Richard was honorable mention All-Pac-10 as a sophomore in 2001 and the sky is unlimited for Richard in 2002...Richard is a unique middle linebacker as he has sprinter's speed and is a tough, hard-nosed sure tackler…he is very durable…in addition to his ability to stop the run, Richard also does a tremendous job in pass coverage…he had three interceptions and 10 pass breakups as a freshman...Richard calls defensive signals on the field for OSU and is a strong leader...he certainly has all of the necessary credentials to rank as one of the nation's top linebackers...during winter conditioning, Richard posted weightlifting bests of 475 in the back squat, 360 in the bench press, 303 in the power clean, 276 in the push press and he produced a 33-inch vertical jump.
(2001—Sophomore)—After a banner freshman season in which he earned first team Freshman All-America honors, Richard had an even better sophomore season...he led OSU in defensive point production with 330 points...he started all 11 games at middle linebacker and was seldom off the field...he produced 93 tackles (54 solo) and ranked fifth in the Pacific-10 Conference in total tackles...he had 17 tackles for loss, which ranked second in the Pac-10...he had two sacks, caused a fumble, recovered two fumbles, broke up two passes and had a quarterback hurry...he was selected honorable mention All-Pac-10 by the conference coaches...he had a sensational game on the road at Arizona State when he established two school records...he broke the OSU record for defensive production points with 81 vs. the Sun Devils, plus he registered a school record seven tackles for loss in the game...he opened the season at Fresno State with 26 defensive points with eight tackles and two tackles for loss...he had the lowest point production mark of his career the following week at New Mexico State with only three points and three assisted tackles...came back with 13 points vs. UCLA on five tackles...produced 37 points at Washington State with 18 tackles (seven solo) and one caused fumble...his 18 tackles were four away from the school record...produced 32 points vs. Arizona on seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack...produced the school record 81 points at ASU with 15 tackles (eight solo), one sack, seven tackles for loss and a recovered fumble...produced 35 defensive points vs. California with seven tackles, a tackle for loss and a recovered fumble...accounted for 31 points at USC on 11 tackles (10 solo)...produced 20 points vs. Washington with six tackles and two tackles for loss...had a team-high 32 points vs. Northern Arizona on seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a pass broken up...produced 20 points at Oregon on six tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass broken up...his game continued to improve during spring drills…he reported to spring drills as the No. 1 linebacker and totally established himself No. 1 at the position during the spring...Richard continued to get physically stronger…he posted weightlifting bests of 340 in the bench press and 410 in the squat.
(2000—Redshirt Freshman)—Richard started all 12 games for Oregon State as a redshirt freshman at middle linebacker and had a terrific season…he was rewarded by being named to The Sporting News freshman All-America team and to the Football News freshman All-America squad…Richard finished third on the OSU squad in defensive points with 293, coming on 72 tackles (55 solo), two sacks, seven tackles for loss, 10 passes broken up, three pass interceptions and two quarterback hurry plays…the one thing that marked his play all year was that Richard was very consistent…he opened the season with 18 defensive points vs. Eastern Washington with six tackles…had four tackles for 12 points at New Mexico…had a season-high 59 points vs. San Diego State, with eight tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, a pass interception and a quarterback hurry…produced 26 points vs. USC with nine tackles and a quarterback hurry…had 11 tackles and a tackle for loss at Washington for 26 points…had seven tackles and two tackles for loss and 29 points vs. Stanford…produced 23 points with six tackles and three passes broken up at UCLA…had four tackles and a pass broken up vs. WSU…had three tackles and a tackle for loss at California…had a big game at Arizona with six tackles, a pass interception and a pass break up…had four tackles and a sensational diving pass interception against Oregon in the Civil War for 20 points…he produced 16 points in the 41-9 victory over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl with four tackles and two passes broken up…Richard entered spring drills coming off an impressive redshirt season at linebacker... he opened the spring as the No. 2 weak linebacker behind James Allen...Richard got a big break early in spring drills as Tevita Moala, No. 1 on the depth chart at middle linebacker, suffered a spring-ending knee injury (ACL) on April 8 during pregame warm-ups prior to OSU's first scrimmage...as a result of Tevita's injury, Richard moved to middle linebacker where he flourished during the spring...he had a sensational spring as he produced several sacks and tackles for loss...Richard has great speed, a trademark for OSU linebackers...he posted weightlifting bests of 395 in the back squat, 305 in the bench press and 258 in the power clean during winter conditioning.
(1999—Freshman)—Richard spent the 1999 season as a redshirt linebacker and played on the scout team...he definitely made an impression during the 1999 season and was regarded as one of OSU's top redshirts...in fact, then defensive coordinator Willy Robinson made the following observation about Richard's play, “he is a mean man and he runs fast.”
CHAPARRAL HIGH SCHOOL, Las Vegas, NV—(1995-98)—Richard was selected first-team all-state as a wide receiver and linebacker and first-team all-conference (Sunrise) as a senior...selected Sunrise League defensive Player-of-the-Year as a senior...he was a two-year starter at Chaparral (4A school) at both wide receiver and linebacker...selected first-team all-division as a junior on offense and second-team all-division on defense as a junior and first-team all-league on defense...he played football his sophomore year at Cheyenne High School in North Las Vegas...also plays basketball for the Cowboys...selected all-conference at forward as a junior last year while leading the Cowboys in scoring and rebounding...he played football as a junior for Jordan Phee and for Coach Ben Johnson as a senior... “Richard has amazing athletic potential,” said Phee. “He will succeed at whatever he does. He has natural ability to find the football. We probably had him playing out of position as a junior. We played him outside and he is more of a middle linebacker. He is a real hitter.”...Richard ran the 40 in 4.6 in high school...he was the leading receiver (yards) in the State of Nevada as a senior with 44 catches for 704 yards (16.0 average) and seven touchdowns in 10 games...caught 10 passes for 160 yards and four touchdowns as a junior...on defense, Richard had 63 solo tackles and 40 assisted tackles as a senior, plus four quarterback sacks, three pass interceptions, blocked 2 kicks and he recovered three fumbles...in 10 games as a junior, he produced 45 solo tackles, 50 assisted tackles, seven sacks, blocked five kicks, intercepted five passes and recovered three fumbles... “He has great speed and athleticism,” said Johnson. “I think he is the prototype linebacker. He works hard. The only time we had him off the field was on the kickoff team as he was too valuable for us.”...also recruited by Colorado State, Arizona State and Utah State.
