CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State swim team battled against two Pac-12 foes today, defeating Utah 147.5-114.5 and falling to UCLA 183-78. The meet also marked senior day and the last time that seniors Jenni Dole, Anna Humphrey and Hannah McCulley would compete in Corvallis.
“We had a very good meet today,” head coach Larry Liebowitz said. “In many cases we were faster than last week and we had a lot of people who had their best times of the year today. Overall I am very pleased with the performance.”
The competitors started the meet with the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Shelby Webber, Crystal Kibby, Rachel O'Brien and Jenni Dole finished in fifth place overall with a time of 1:46.65.
Kibby finished the day with two dual wins. She finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.34. She also finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.22.
“Crystal got two overall wins today and she was very impressive,” Liebowitz said. “She is right on her times and she is really starting to look right. She is getting closer to those times that are going to put her at the NCAAs.”
Jenni Dole finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.02. She also competed in the 200-yard backstroke finishing with a time of 2:03.69 placing third overall.
Rachel O'Brien finished in third place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.12. She continued her strong performance when she finished in the fourth place during the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.66.
Dakota Bloch finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:18.59. She also finished in fifth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.34. Allison Gillespie finished the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.76 placing second in her heat and sixth overall.
“Allison did very well in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyles,” Liebowitz said. “Dakota was impressive in the 1,000-yard freestyle and she has really stepped up. We have a few more weeks to go and if we can keep improving like we have, I think we are really going to surprise some people.”
The Beavers closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Dole, Gillespie, O'Brien and Webber finished the event with a time of 1:38.12.
Oregon State will return to action January 21 when they take on the Lady Broncos of Boise State. The dual is set to kick-off at 11:00 p.m.
