Carlyle Sets School Record in Indoor 3,000-Meter

SEATTLE, Wash. - Laura Carlyle set the school record in the indoor 3,000-meter run at the UW Last Chance meet in Seattle, Wash. while a large contingent of the team competed in its first outdoor track meet of the season at the Linfield Erik Anderson Icebreaker meet in McMinnville, Ore.
"Overall it was a really good day," Oregon State track head coach Kelly Sullivan said following competition Saturday. "It was a good start for our outdoor season and a good way to finish out indoor season."
In her first time running the 3,000-meters indoors, Carlyle set the school record for the event with a time of 9:35.99 in Seattle Saturday. She beat the previous record of 9:51.24 set by Kathy Knowlton in 1985.
Football student-athletes Markus Wheaton and Keynan Parker both won their preliminary heats of the men's 60-meter dash with season best times of 6.91 and 6.89 respectively. Parker finished second in the finals with a time of 6.83 while Wheaton came in third with a time of 6.86. Both finals times were personal bests.
Fellow football student-athlete Obum Gwatchem won his flight of the high jump with a height of 7-01.50 which is a provisional height for the NCAA Indoor National Championships. The announcement of the participants for the championships will be announced early next week.
In McMinnville, Jen Macias finished second in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:39.90 just three one-hundredths of a second off the first place time of 4:39.87. Audrey Botti set a personal best time in the event with a time of 4:34.46 which was good enough to finish in fourth place.
