PERSONAL—Born 8/12/80 in Compton, CA…son of Kimberly Gammage…his mother is a nurse…Jason is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a liberal studies major...he would like to become a lawyer…he has three brothers and sisters, Krystal, 19; Nelson, 11 and Layla, 9…doing volunteer work in the park in his neighborhood has been a hobby for him.
OSU—(2003—Senior Redshirt)—After spending a year redshirting, Jason was able to fully recover from having surgery on his left knee...Jason has 10 games of OSU experience under his belt and was a solid backup linebacker for the Beavers in 2001...Jason engaged in strong competition with Seth Lacey at strong linebacker during spring drills...Jason will report to fall camp listed No. 2 on the depth chart at strong linebacker, but he will certainly be involved in a lot of action this fall...he has also been a contributor on special teams...Jason is a smart linebacker who makes very good decisions...Jason has career weightlifting bests of 440 in the back squat, 355 in the bench press, 303.1 in the power clean and 336.6 in the push press...he has a vertical jump best of 32 inches.
(2002—Senior)—Jason wound up redshirting in 2002 as his left knee, which was operated on January 11, 2002, was not 100 percent ready to play...Jason was unable to participate in spring drills as a result of rehabbing from knee surgery...Jason was injured on the Friday prior to the Civil War football game with Oregon...he had surgery on his left knee (reconstruction surgery) on January 11...Jason was very diligent with his rehab work and he reported to fall camp, but he was not 100 percent...he was very valuable in 2001 as a backup linebacker and special teams player for the Beavers...a healthy Jason Lowe will be a big plus for OSU in 2002...due to his knee surgery, Jason was only able to participate in the bench press during the winter weight training...his best lift was 340 pounds.
(2001—Junior)—Jason played in 10 games for the Beavers as a backup middle linebacker and key special teams player in 2001...he did not play in the final game of the season against Oregon as he suffered a knee (left) injury on Friday prior to the Civil War game...the injury required surgery on January 11, 2002 to repair a torn ACL...he had reconstruction surgery...he produced 63 defensive points on the season, 14th best on the squad...Jason had 20 tackles, including nine solo...he had one sack, one caused fumble and one recovered fumble...he had one tackle at Fresno State...had one tackle at New Mexico State...produced four tackles vs. UCLA...accounted for 19 defensive points at Washington State with two tackles, a sack and a caused fumble, plus he scored a touchdown when he returned a blocked punt by Kenny Farley for a 4-yard blocked punt return with 6:41 left in the fourth quarter...produced three tackles vs. Arizona...failed to produce any defensive points at ASU, or at home vs. California and on the road at USC...recorded three tackles vs. Washington...matched his career high 19 points vs. Northern Arizona with five tackles and a recovered fumble...enrolled at OSU in spring quarter and participated in spring drills at strong linebacker…Jason was limited in the first two weeks of spring drills as he was coming off mid-season (2000) knee (left) surgery at Cerritos College…he was never at 100 percent the entire spring…he worked extremely hard in rehabilitation and was at full strength when fall camp opened…he reported to fall camp listed No. 4 at weak linebacker, but quickly moved up the chart to a backup role…because of his knee, he was only able to participate in the bench press during weightlifting tests and he registered a best of 315 pounds.
CERRITOS COLLEGE, Norwalk, CA—Signed with OSU in the early signing period…played junior college football at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA…first team preseason All-America pick by J.C. Grid-Wire…following his freshman season at Cerritos, the Cerritos coaching staff said that Lowe “may be the most talented linebacker ever at Cerritos.”…He played in only six games as a sophomore (2000) after suffering a season-ending knee injury…he recorded 25 solo tackles, 24 assisted tackles and had one sack, 12 tackles for loss and five quarterback hurries in six games…he injured his knee while playing against El Camino College…outside linebacker…had a great freshman season…recorded 82 tackles with 9 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles and a blocked kick…rated as the 29th best junior college player in the nation by SuperPrep Magazine…Cerritos posted a record of 8-3 in 2000 and was ranked 13th in the State of California.
CENTENNIAL HIGH SCHOOL, Compton, CA—Jason was a three-year starter for Centennial High School as an outside linebacker…graduated in 1998…he earned first-team all-league (Ocean) honors and was selected All-CIF as a senior…recorded 159 tackles, including 94 solo, with 12 quarterback sacks and 35 tackles for loss, four fumble recoveries and one interception in his senior season and was named the Most Valuable Player on his team…he recorded 21 tackles and two sacks in a game against Lynwood High School his senior year…had 98 tackles as a junior with four sacks, 10 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and an interception…named his team's Most Inspirational Player as a junior…he produced 64 tackles as a sophomore, including a sack and four tackles for loss…he also earned his school's Male Scholastic Athlete of the Year Award as a senior.
