Beaverton, Ore. – The Oregon State swim team competed against the California Golden Bears for the second day in a row at the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore. This meet was not scored as a Pac-12 dual.
“Getting to race against California twice in one weekend really lets us see how strong we need to be,” head coach Larry Liebowitz said. “It shows what we need to improve so I think that it is very worthwhile to swim them early in the year.”
The meet in Beaverton was highlighted by Jenni Dole's performance in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Dole placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.45. Dole then went on to place first in the 100-yard backstroke, beating out NCAA runner-up Deborah Roth with a time of 57.49.
“We learned that we can be very competitive and we can swim with the best that California has,” Liebowitz said. “I think this was a good weekend for Beaver swimming.”
Shelby Webber also had a good performance in her second collegiate meet of her career. Webber placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.05. She placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.24.
