CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's soccer team dropped a Pacific-10 Conference match to San Diego State, 1-0, Friday evening at Paul Lorenz Field.
The Aztecs (10-5-2, 3-4-1 Pac-10) scored early in the match at the 1:04 mark when Raymundo Reza stole a pass and sent it to Jose Altamirano who shot to the bottom left side of the goal.
"We are disappointed with the loss and the fact they scored the first minute in," Oregon State head coach Steve Simmons said. "We kept the game tight to give us a chance to get something out of it all the way to the end. That's something that we thought was in our favor going towards the end of the game.
"But, at the same time, we are trying to get young people to get older and that's hard to do. But I thought some of our young guys stepped up. I thought the guy who stepped up was actually a senior, Mike Parker, who hasn't played as much. I thought he played very, very well tonight."
The Beavers (6-9-0, 1-7-0) played tight defense the rest of the match but were unable to even the score. John Swenson, Daniel Van Vleet and Mike Parker all had shots for Oregon State.
"The key to the next two games for us is how we handle confidence," Simmons said. "Going through a patch like this and refocusing and doing the best you can."
The Beavers will have their annual Senior Day on Sunday before their match against UCLA at 1 p.m. and recognize Chris Miller, Mike Parker, Brian Ramsey and Travis Sanchez.
