Oregon State Post-Game Quotes
Head coach Mike Riley
On winning 63 games at Oregon State …
“Our coaching staff is like one person combined. I got a great group of guys and they did a great job of preparing our team for today's game.”
On the 48-21 win…
“Defensively, we were all over them and we never lost focus. [The game] seemed very workman like and passionate. They [the team] just kept going and making plays. It was fun to see.”
On Keaton Kristick being on defense and punt teams…
“Keaton Kristick's been on the punt team since he was a freshman here. He's one of the best guards that we've ever had and he likes it. So he's going to stay on the punt team.”
On Oregon State's defense…
“Mark Banker and his staff did a great job of preparing our team. We really mixed it up, individual guys made plays, and the pressure just stayed on relentlessly. We were very, very disruptive to their offense immediately in the ball game.”
“I think what you've seen, generally, is that you are never a finished product as a person or a player. What you are seeing is growth by the guys on our defense.”
Defensive lineman Matt LaGrone
On the defense as a whole …
“The defense, as a whole, got off and played faster than Washington. while applying pressure every play.”
On rattling Jake Locker …
“I think we rattled him up just a little, but he continued to play a good game, which made it a fun game.”
On getting to Locker early …
“It was definitely important for the d-line to apply pressure, since he was key point of their offense by throwing and running the ball.”
Running back Jacquizz Rodgers
On getting it done on both sides of the field …
“It is great when the defense can make plays like that with 50 yards and beyond because then it makes it a lot easier to score.”
On thinking about the Rose Bowl …
“Within the players it does cross our minds and we talk about it. We are just handling what is currently in front of us right now, and we are going to remain focused on Washington State next weekend.”
Quarterback Sean Canfield
On the win...
"Yeah, it was awesome. I think in the second half is where we made the difference as opposed to the previous wins we've had this year. We were really able to put our foot down and really put the game away."
On winning on Senior Day...
"Yeah, it was obviously an emotional day, I think more for my parents than me. It hasn't really hit me yet that this was my last game in Reser Stadium but it was a big deal for me and the rest of the seniors to go out on top."
On the defense setting the tone...
"It was crazy. The credit goes to them and Coach Banker. Every player on that side of the ball just plays so hard on every play and it's very evident."
On the race for first place...
"It's crazy right now. Obviously, with the past two weeks and what has happened around the league it's kind of wide open right now. just a credit to our conference, such a competitive league and maybe we don't get the respect that we deserve over here on the West Coast but I think the teams playing this year and the way we've beaten each other up has proven how good we are."
Tight End Joe Halahuni
On playing against the Huskies...
"It was fun. Growing up I dreamed of playing for the Huskies. It didn't turn out that way and I'm happy here and I'm glad we got a big win today."
On preparing...
"We work hard throughout the week in practice and our coaches get us mentally prepared. We work every day on special teams, defense, offense and watch teams and we're just confident right now and executing."
On the balance in the game...
"It's just the coaches making the right calls and us executing them properly. We just had fun today and did everything we were supposed to do."
Washington Post-Game Quotes
Head coach Steve Sarkisian
On the game overall…
“Well that was an ugly football game. There wasn't a phase where we performed to our capabilities, and that's what's disappointing from a coaching standpoint. You always go into a game and you want to achieve or play as close to your level of capability as possible. Today, for whatever reason, we didn't do that. We did not perform at a level that we are capable of, not even close. Tip your hat to Oregon State. They came out and played well, but I don't know if it had as much to do with them, or if it just had to do with us. We couldn't get out of our own way there for awhile.”
On the OSU defensive front …
“They're a nice defensive front, and we knew that coming into the game. The pressure can look overwhelming when you don't block guys, it can look even worse. I felt for Chris, I felt for Jake early on, and then I felt like we settled down and didn't execute on the perimeter. I'm not saying it was them. I don't think we were very good in any area. But that area was very evident, especially in the first two series. They were getting off, they were in our backfield and they were creating havoc for us. We just couldn't get right.”
On game planning for both Rodgers' brothers …
“We had a relatively good idea of what they're doing and where they were. Especially with Jacquizz, it seemed like we'd stop him, stop him, stop him and then bang, he'd snap off a big one. And they really didn't need to. They're both great players, it doesn't matter what their last names are. They are both great players and they have a nice coaching staff that gets them the ball.
On playing at Reser Stadium …
“Yeah, I don't like this Reser Stadium a whole lot. It's three times in a row when I've been here now. What's funny about these games is that they've all gone the same way in the first half. It's almost just disastrous offensive football where you can't get out of your own way. I don't know maybe we'll just get dressed on the bus and take the field. We won't even go into the locker room.”
Cornerback Desmond Trufant
On the Rodgers brothers…
“They are good players. They're fast, they're strong, they're small, they can move andthey're elusive. So, they're great players actually.”
On James Rodgers' big run back…
“I thought he was going to give me a move, but he just kept going full speed. That's kind of what got me stuck. He's real fast.”
Linebacker Cort Dennison
On Jacquizz Rodgers…
“He's a great running back. He's light on his feet and quick. He is definitely one of the best in the conference.”
Quarterback Jake Locker
On the let down of the game considering all that was on the line…
“We prepared well. I thought we were ready to play. For some reason we just didn't execute. Some of the stuff is on me. I need to be able to recognize and get the ball out quicker.”
