CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Roeland Schaftenaar's 3-pointer sent the game into overtime and Oregon State went on to beat USC, 62-58, on Sunday, snapping a 21-game losing streak in Pacific 10 Conference regular-season play.
Schaftenaar tied a career-high with 18 points for the Beavers (6-6, 1-1), who erased a 15-point second-half deficit. Calvin Haynes added 16 points, including four points in overtime.
Taj Gibson led USC (10-4, 1-1) with 15 points. The Trojans entered the game on a five-game winning streak and had beaten the Beavers seven consecutive times.
The Beavers are in their first season under coach Craig Robinson, who picked up his first career Pac-10 win.
Oregon State scored the game's first eight points and led 12-2 on an Omari Johnson basket. The Trojans responded with an 11-0 run and took a 25-20 lead at the break.
The Trojans extended the lead to as many as 15 in the second half before the Beavers staged a rally that was capped by Schaftenaar's 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left in regulation.
USC's Keith Wilkinson made a 3-pointer to open the overtime period, but the Trojans didn't score again until Wilkinson's free throw with 4.3 seconds remaining.
Johnson's 3-pointer with 2:25 left in overtime tied the score at 57, and the Beavers went ahead for good on Haynes' scoop lay-in with 1:23 left. Haynes added another lay-in with 24 seconds remaining.
Haynes has scored at least 14 points in all six games he has played this season after averaging 5.5 last season.
Oregon State will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 8, when the Beavers travel to Tempe, Ariz., to face nationally-ranked Arizona State in a game to be televised by FSN.
