CORVALLIS, Ore. - Heather Cullen hit .320 with a match-high 12 kills to lead the No. 9 UCLA volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Oregon State on Friday night. Game scores were 30-13, 30-20 and 30-24.
Amanda Eggert had a team-high nine kills and Anne Watts-Roberts finished with seven for Oregon State (12-10, 2-8 Pac-10), but no other Beaver players had more than four. OSU's offense struggled with 34 kills and 31 errors to finish the match with a .022 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, the Bruins hit .258 with 50 kills.
"We played hard, but we got beat by a better team. UCLA has a very strong net game, and their floor defense was picking up everything," OSU coach Nancy Somera said. "Obviously I would like to see a better offensive night, but we just couldn't find any kills. UCLA didn't make it easy for us."
The Bruins outdug the Beavers, 63-53, with libero Chrissie Zartman posting a match-high 19 digs for UCLA. K.C. Frederic led OSU with 14 digs, nine of which came in game three, and Watts-Roberts tied her season-high with 13.
UCLA (16-4, 8-3) also outblocked the Beavers, 14-6. Brynn Murphy, who hit .323 with 11 kills, also had a strong night at the net with a match-high six blocks for the Bruins. Michelle Franz led the Beavers with four.
