LOS ANGELES - Angie Shirley had a match-high 10 kills, but it wasn't enough for the Oregon State volleyball team to stop No. 4 Southern California on Friday night. The Women of Troy swept the Beavers, 15-7, 15-3, 15-8.
With the sweep, USC extended its school-record winning streak to 30 games, having won all 10 of matches this season in three games. The Women of Troy improved to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in Pac-10 play, while Oregon State dropped to 11-4 and 3-2.
"They're a good team, and we didn't do the things we've been doing, so weren't as successful," said coach Nancy Somera. "But 1-1 for the weekend isn't bad. We're learning how to play against two good Pac-10 teams in the same weekend."
Shirley hit .412 for the night, but the Beavers hit just .162 as a team. Meanwhile, USC hit at a .417 clip overall, led by Jennifer Pahl's .615 mark. Pahl also had 10 kills, joining Shirley as one of only two players to reach double figures for the match.
Joscelyn Hannaford added nine kills for OSU, but no other Beavers had more than five kills for the night. OSU finished the match with 36 kills, compared to 45 from USC.
The Women of Troy also had more digs (35-23) and more service aces (8-4) than the Beavers. Both teams finished the night with four blocks.
The Beavers return to action Friday, October 6 with a 7:30 p.m. match against No. 8 Arizona at Gill Coliseum.
