ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Oregon State's men golf team fired a final-round 293 to finish 11th with a 54-hole total of 891 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the Championship Course. The 20 teams concluded the two-day competition on Saturday.
Sophomore John Lepak, who was named to the All-Pac-10 Conference First Team last season, stepped up for the Beavers in the final round. Lepak fired a team best 4-under-par-68 to finish the tournament tied for 12th at 216. Surprisingly, Anthony Arvidson, who won the Beavers opening tournament and tied for second last week, completed the event tied for 80th at 231. Arvidson shot rounds of 77, 78 and 76.
Colorado State's Nigel Spence posted a final round 2-under-par-70 to capture the individual title. Spence completed the tournament at 8-under-208. Jeremy Anderson of UNLV finished second at 210, after shooting a final-round 74. Scott Piercy of San Diego State had a three-round total of 213 to finish third. BYU's Manuel Merizalde finished fourth at 214, after firing a final-round 3-under-par-69. Seven individuals shared fifth place at 215.
The rest of the Oregon State squad included Tim Mickelson tied for 38 at 223, Kyle Hudson tied for 48th at 225, and Chance Holmes tied for 89th at 234.
BYU won the team title, leading from start to finish. The Cougars finished the tournament with a 54-hole total of 856, 10 shots better than second place USC. Host New Mexico shared third place with UNLV at 875.
Oregon State continues its active fall schedule at the Pepperdine Intercollegiate on Oct. 11-12.
