Late Goal Edges OSU At Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Oregon State gave up the winning goal in the final minute as the Beavers lost to Air Force 4-3 in MPSF Mountain Division men's soccer on Sunday afternoon. OSU (4-8-0 overall, 0-2-0 MPSF Mountain) now returns home to meet Stanford at 3 p.m. Friday and California at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium.
At Air Force (8-5-1, 1-2-1), Sunday's matchup was far from a routine affair. The game started three hours late as the gounds crew had to make the field playable after a heavy Saturday night snowfall, then the contest included three ejections and even a goal scored by Beaver goalkeeper Bryan Hill.
Oregon State went up 1-0 in just the game's third minute as Scott Tedder scored off an assist from Jerod Fitzgerald. The Beavers then gained a man advantage after Air Force's Brandon Jones was issued a red card in the 17th minute, however, the Falcons had the only other goal of the half as Jamil Walker tied the score in the 41st minute.
The Beavers went in front 2-1 in the 61st minute on Hill's rare score by a goalkeeper. Hill punted the ball deep and Air Force keeper Rich Cullen came forward, then misplayed the bounce and the ball went off his hands and rolled into the goal.
OSU extended its lead to 3-1 in the 66th minute when Greg Howes scored on a penalty kick after Air Force was called for a handball in the box. The goal moved Howes into ninth place on OSU's list of career scoring leaders, he now has 31 points on 10 goals and 11 assists.
Air Force picked up a goal from Keith McDaniel in the 70th minute to make it 3-2, then Walker tied the score at 3-3 in the 77th minute. In the 83rd minute, OSU's Fitzgerald was issued his second yellow card of the day and sent off to put both teams at even strength.
Finally, Walker completed his hat trick with his third goal of the game in the 90th minute to make it 4-3. With only four seconds left in the contest, the Beavers' Tedder was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the afternoon.
