Beavers Finish Tied For Second At Pepperdine STRATA Invitational

SOMIS, Calif. - The Oregon State men's golf team shot a final-round 288, the lowest round of the tournament, to finish tied for second place at 887 at the Pepperdine STRATA Invitational. Seniors Bryan Geiberger and Dustin Wayne shot sub-par rounds to help the Beavers move up from sixth place.
Geiberger fired a final-round 1-under-par-71 to finish tied for 11th at 222. Wayne shot a team best 2-under-par-70 to complete the tournament tied for 29th at 227.
"I am very proud of the guys today, everyone played consistently good." said Head Coach Mike Ketcham. "We did a nice job of coming back after we dug ourselves into a hole in the first round."
Sophomore John Lepak led OSU with a three-round total of 221. Lepak tied for ninth after shooting a final-round 74. Anthony Arvidson tied for 21st at 225, while Eric Dahm finished tied for 27th at 226.
"I believe this was the best round of golf the guys have played all fall," said Ketcham. "It was a nice way to end the fall season and get ready for the spring."
It took a playoff for Scott Piercy of San Diego State to claim the individual medalist honors over Sean Gilliland of Texas A&M. Piercy and Gilliland finished the tournament at 2-under-par-214.
Texas A&M won the team title at 884, while UC-Santa Barbara finished tied for second at 887. Hosts Pepperdine placed fourth at 890.
Oregon State will open the spring season at the Arizona Ping Intercollegiate Jan. 30-Feb. 1.
