Morgan won both the 800 and 1500 meters at the Olympic Trials, but an injury forced him to miss the 1964 Olympic Games.
The following year he broke the U.S. record in the 880 with a time of 1:47.5. He earned All-American acclaim twice at OSU and won the 1963 NCAA title in the mile with a time of 4:05.3.
While at OSU he was part of the 2-mile world record team that took place at the West Coast Relays in Fresno, Calif.
At the time of his induction he held the school record in the 880 and had the second best time in the mile.
He is also a member of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
