Philadelphia native Omar Speights had a phenomenal true freshman season for the Beavers in 2019. The linebacker was second on the team with 73 tackles for 7.5 tackles for loss. The 73 tackles marked the third-most nationally by a true or redshirt freshman in 2019. Speights’ biggest game came against Washington when he had 18 tackles, the most by a freshman nationally in 2019; the effort also tied for the ninth-most in Oregon State history. Speights finished with 63 tackles over his last seven games, an average of nine per. He was named a Freshman All-American by The Athletic, the FWAA, USA Today and 247Sports.
