Shelton was named an All-America in 2014 by the NSCAA, Soccer America and College Soccer News. After missing much of his first three seasons due to injury, Shelton exploded during his senior campaign, recording 10 goals and 12 assists on his way to Pac-12 Player of the Year honors. He earned All-Pac-12 Honroable Mention as a sophomore.
Shelton finished his career with 19 goals and 16 assists. He helped the Beavers make the NCAA Tournament in his senior season, snapping an NCAA postseason drought on over a decade.
Shelton was selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by expansion club New York City FC, the first draft pick in team history. Shelton also represented the United States at the U19 and U23 levels.
