At 7 feet, 3 inches, Swede Halbrook was known as the tallest player to play college and professional basketball during his time.
Halbrook was named an All-American in 1955 and selected to the All-Pacific Coast Conference First Team and All-Northern Division First Team in 1954 and 1955.
In two seasons at Oregon State, Halbrook scored 1,011 points and grabbed 617 rebounds in 48 games. His career averages of 21.1 points and 12.8 rebounds are both the second most in program history. He holds the school records with 36 rebounds in a game (15th most in NCAA history) and 28 free throw attempts in a game.
Halbrook left Oregon State after his junior season and played professionally with the Wichita Vickers and the Syracuse Nationals. The Nationals selected him with the 28th overall pick in the 1956 NBA Draft.
A native of Portland, Ore., Halbrook led Lincoln High School to a state championship and had 50 points and 34 rebounds in one of the tournament games.
