John Mandic was the first player to ever be named to the All-Northern Division Team three times. He was selected to the All-American and All-Pacific Conference teams in 1942.
The Los Angeles native helped the Beavers to the 1940 and 1942 league titles. One of the biggest highlights of his career came when he hit a buzzer-beating bucket to defeat Oregon 27-26 on Feb. 13, 1942. Oregon State won 64 games during his career.
He and his brother, Frank Mandic, played on the same team during the 1939-40 season.
Mandic was inducted into the State of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
