Grenier was selected 37th overall by the Orioles
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State infielder Cadyn Grenier has been selected in the first round, 37th overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Grenier's selection gives the Beavers three in the first round this year – including Nick Madrigal and Trevor Larnach – surpassing 2007 (Mitch Canham and Eddie Kunz) as the most in a single season for Oregon State.
Grenier, who hails from Henderson, Nev., has played in 172 career games for the Beavers, batting .285 with 27 doubles, 11 triples, 10 home runs and 99 RBI with 15 stolen bases. This season, he's batting .328 with 16 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 44 RBI.
Grenier was named the Pac-12 Conference's Defensive Player of the Year last week, is a two-time All-Pac-12 performer and was recently selected to the Corvallis Regional All-Tournament Team. The junior is also one of five finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is given annually to the nation's top shortstop.
Grenier is only the Oregon State player to be taken by the Orioles – Curt Daniels was selected in 1971.
