June 16, 2018 | Baseball
Â
The Beavers (49-11-1) will return to action at 11 a.m. PT on Monday, in an elimination game against the loser of Saturday evening's matchup between Mississippi State and Washington.
Â
The Tar Heels (44-18) jumped out to a 6-1 lead mid-way through the third inning, but the Beavers answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to cut into the advantage. North Carolina tacked on two more in the top of the seventh, before Oregon State again battled back to score a pair in the bottom of the frame. The Beavers could not complete the comeback from there, falling for the first time this postseason.
Â
Sophomore Brandon Eisert struck out four, while allowing five hits and one earned run in four innings of relief work. Freshman Christian Chamberlain entered in the eighth and pitched a pair of shutout innings to keep the Beavers within striking distance.
Â
Junior Trevor Larnach went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs, recording his first career triple and a double on the afternoon. Fellow junior Steven Kwan went 3 for 4 and scored two runs in the contest.
Â
Sophomore Adley Rutschman tallied two hits, two RBIs and scored a run. Redshirt senior Kyle Nobach recorded a pair of hits and drove in a run.
Â
North Carolina used six pitchers in the winning effort. Oregon State recorded a total of 13 hits in the contest, compared to 11 for the Tar Heels.
