Beavers Qualify to IRA Championships for Sixth Straight Year
May 15, 2018 | Men's Rowing
For the sixth straight season, the Oregon State men's rowing team will compete at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships. The Beavers will race three crews – the Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 at the national championship regatta June 1-3 on the shores of Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.
"It's an honor to be selected to race the best crews in the country," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "We want to finish this great season with the best boat speed we've had all year. The guys are excited to push through this final training period and to exceed the rankings."
The Beavers, who finished fourth overall at the Pac-12 Rowing Championships on Sunday, concluded the regular season ranked No. 17 according to the latest USRowing Collegiate Poll.
Oregon State has a little over two weeks to prepare for IRAs. The field of competition includes several crews the Beavers have already faced this season including Washington, California, Stanford, Dartmouth and Wisconsin.
