Beavers Win Opener At Arizona
April 06, 2018 | Baseball
TUCSON, Ariz. – Bryce Fehmel held Arizona to four hits and a run and Oregon State scored three runs in the sixth inning en route to a 6-2 win over the Wildcats Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Â
Fehmel was stellar in his eighth start of the year. His lone blemish came on a Nick Quintana home run in the fourth that tied the game at one. Fehmel rebounded after the home run and worked 6 2/3 innings to improve to 4-1 on the year.
Â
The right-hander struck out three – including two in the seventh before departing for reliever Dylan Pearce – while walking two.
Â
Tied at one in the sixth, the Beavers (24-4 overall, 7-3 Pac-12 Conference) rallied for three to take the lead for good. Michael Gretler hit one to left center – the deepest part of the park at 410 feet – for a run-scoring double. He and Jack Anderson then scored when Cadyn Grenier hit into what appeared to be a double play ball. Instead, it was bobbled, enabling OSU to take a 4-1 lead.
Â
Grenier added to the lead with his second RBI of the game, a double past the first-base bag in the eighth.
Â
He and Anderson both finished with two hits to lead the OSU attack.
Â
Arizona's (17-11, 2-5) Cody Deason was saddled with the loss, dropping to 3-2 on the year. A right-hander, he gave up five hits and four runs – three earned – in six innings.
