April 20, 2018 | Women's Rowing
PRINCETON, N.J. – Oregon State rowers Alina Hagstrom and Scout Sutton have been invited to take part in the U.S. Women's Under 23 National Team Selection Camp at Caspersen Rowing Center in West Windsor, N.J.
Â
Hagstrom, a junior from Seattle, Wash., is one of 29 invitees to the Sweep Selection Camp joining 11 other Pac-12 athletes. She has been a key cog in the Beavers' Varsity 8 since her freshman season. The public health major is currently racing in the stroke seat. Hagstrom was also selected to participate in 2016.
Â
Sutton, who is double-majoring in environmental economics and policy and agricultural business management, is one of 10 rowers invited to the Sculling Selection Camp and the only Pac-12 athlete. For the sophomore who hails from Fort Collins, Colo., it is the first U.S. Selection camp invitation. On the water, Sutton has moved into OSU's Varsity 8 this season helping the Beavers to a pair of dual wins over UCLA and Gonzaga.
Â
"I'm really excited about this competitive development opportunity for Alina and Scout," head coach Kate Maxim said. "I know they are eager to learn and challenge themselves amidst some of the best collegiate rowers in the country. In addition to advancing their individual development, we know the speed gains they make at U23 Selection Camp will benefit our team as a whole."
Â
Lead by Under 23 Women's Program Director Brett Gorman, the women's camp will select the U23 women's eight, four and quadruple sculls and four with coxswain that will compete at the 2018 World Rowing Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 25-29 in Poznan, Poland. The camp will also select a pair to race at USRowing's Under 23 World Championship Trials in early July.
