Grenier Tallies Three Hits In Series Finale
March 31, 2018 | Baseball
Â
Oregon State mounted a late rally, scoring three runs in the ninth with two down via a single by Adley Rutschman and double by Trevor Larnach. The tying run, however, was on deck when the game ended.
Â
The Beavers dropped to 21-4 on the year, including a 6-3 mark in Pac-12 Conference play. The loss snapped a streak of 14 consecutive Pac-12 series victories for Oregon State dating back to the 2016 season as the Utes also claimed Thursday's opener before an OSU win on Friday.
Â
Grenier's solo home run, coming in the seventh, marked his second of the year and pulled the Beavers to within two at 7-5. The Utes (6-20, 3-3), however, answered with a two-run home run by DaShawn Keirsey Jr., in the bottom half of the frame before adding two more in the eighth.
Â
Grenier also singled in both the first and third innings.
Â
Larnach, Rutschman, Andy Armstrong and Michael Gretler all had two hits as the Beavers finished with 11 on the day. Armstrong extended his hit streak to 13 games with an RBI triple in the third. Gretler also drove in a run on a double in the sixth, while Rutschman drove in a pair via a double in the first and single in the ninth. Larnach tallied two doubles – in the sixth and the ninth.
Â
Bryce Fehmel started for the Beavers and allowed nine hits and five runs in 3 1/3 innings. The junior was charged with the loss, dropping to 3-1 on the year.
Â
Fehmel's counterpart, Brett Brocoff, picked up the win, improving to 2-3. He allowed five hits and two runs in five innings of work.
