The lefty struck out a career-best 13 in the win over Washington Saturday
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State senior left-hander Luke Heimlich has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Â
Heimlich struck out a career-high 13 batters in Oregon State's 16-1 win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Washington. He did not issue a walk in 7 1/3 innings and held the Huskies to four hits and a run.
Â
The Puyallup, Wash., native is one of 31 pitchers nationally with five wins; he's the only one from the Pac-12.
Â
He also leads the Pac-12 with 44 strikeouts and has 270 for his career, good for fifth all-time at Oregon State. He is two behind No. 4 Dallas Buck, who tallied 272 from 2004-06.
Â
The honor is the fifth of Heimlich's career, tying him with Chris Pine for the third-most by an Oregon State pitcher. Beaver pitchers have been recognized 89 times since 1986, the most among Pac-12 programs.
Â
Heimlich was the 2017 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, and, a speech communication major, is a two-time All-Academic selection, earning first-team honors as a junior.
