Madrigal has been selected first team Preseason All-America, and Grenier Second Team
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State junior middle infielders Nick Madrigal and Cadyn Grenier have been recognized as preseason All-Americans by Baseball America, the publication announced on Monday.
Â
Madrigal has been tabbed as the first-team second baseman, while Grenier has been selected as the second-team shortstop.
Â
Madrigal, a native of Elk Grove, is coming off a season where he batted .380 with 22 doubles, four home runs, 40 runs batted in and 16 stolen bases. He finished the 2017 season as a unanimous All-American, was named the Pac-12 Conference's Player and Defensive Player of the Year and also earned the program's first-ever collegiate Golden Glove Award. A sociology major, he was also named a Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection.
Â
The preseason selection marks the third leading up to 2018 for Madrigal, who was recognized earlier by Collegiate Baseball and D1Baseball.com.
Â
Grenier, a Henderson, Nev., native, batted .275 last season, collecting five doubles, six triples, five home runs, 37 RBI and six stolen bases. He was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team, was selected as the league's Player of the Week on March 21 and, a psychology major, was named the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team.
Â
Per the publication: "Baseball America annually polls major league organizations' scouting departments to vote on the team and asks that they make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential. In the past, the Preseason All-America team has been a predictor both of the first round of the draft and of team success."
