Madrigal was a unanimous All-American in 2017
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State junior infielder Nick Madrigal has been named a D1Baseball.com preseason First-Team All-American, the online publication announced on Tuesday.
Â
It's his second preseason honor after being chosen first team by Collegiate Baseball in December.
Â
Madrigal, who was a unanimous All-American in 2017 after being named the Pac-12 Conference's Player and Defensive Player of the Year, comes into his junior year after batting .380 with four home runs and 40 runs batted in.
Â
The Elk Grove, Calif., native also tallied 20 doubles, was 16-of-20 in stolen base attempts and drew 27 walks to just 16 strikeouts. In 109 career collegiate games, and 432 at bats, he has struck out just 30 times. That amounts to one strikeout per 14 at bats.
Â
A sociology major, Madrigal was also named a Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection last year.
Â
Madrigal carries a .359 career batting average into 2018, accumulating 31 doubles, seven triples, five home runs, 69 RBI and 24 stolen bases.
