OSU wins twice at Head of the Oklahoma race
October 01, 2016 | Women's Rowing
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oregon State women's rowing team started the season by taking gold in both of its races at the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta on Saturday.
"First of all, hats off to all of the great competition and hospitality," OSU head coach Emily Ford said. "We are especially grateful to Oklahoma for loaning us equipment and to UCO for giving us space at their facility."
The Beavers began the afternoon strongly by taking first place in the Collegiate 8+, in 14:10.487. Oklahoma's No. 1 shell was second in 14:14.229.
"This crew did a great job on the race course," Ford said. "They wanted to represent Beaver Nation with pride and they stepped up to that plate. It was a fun way to start the year. We're looking forward to getting back to work in Corvallis."
In the evening, the Beavers returned to action for the OCE Night Sprints under the lights on the Oklahoma River. The Varsity 8 cruised to victory down the 500-meter course in 1:30.237, edging second-place Tulsa (1:30.921).
The Beavers returns to the water on Nov. 6 at the Head of the Lake Regatta in Seattle.
