CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State standout Sydney Wiese
heads to the WNBA Draft on Thursday, as the guard prepares for her professional career. The draft will begin at 4 p.m. PT. The first round will air live on ESPN2, with the latter rounds on ESPNU.
Following Thursday's draft, WNBA training camps open on April 23.
Oregon State's first ever Senior CLASS Award winner, Wiese was named an All-American by the Associated Press, Wooden Award and USBWA. The guard set the Pac-12 career record for made 3-pointers, and is the Oregon State record holder for career assists. Wiese averaged 15.2 points per game this season, and was among the top 20 in the nation in 3-point percentage. She ended her career fifth in program history for career points, and helped lead Oregon State to three Pac-12 titles. Wiese is part of the first Beaver senior class to ever make the NCAA Tournament all four years of their career.
A speech communication major, Wiese is the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year and an Academic All-America selection. The senior launched her own web series in conjunction with Oregon State gymnast Megan Jimenez, and hopes to go into broadcasting at the conclusion of her playing career. She has also worked extensively in the community, donating her hair in a special Haircuts for Cancer ceremony last week, and participating in a Candlelighters for Cancer fishing trip over the summer.
