LAWRENCE, Kan. – Inclement weather on Thursday forced the postponement of the opening day of the NCAA West Preliminary track & field meet at the University of Kansas.
It will resume on Friday, weather permitting. A revised schedule was not available.
Juniors Devin Collins and Morgan Anderson were scheduled to compete in the opening round of the 400 hurdles and 1500 meters on Thursday. They will run on Friday instead.
Junior Melissa Ausman (pictured) will compete in the discus and senior Sara Almen will compete in the high jump today. Collins is also scheduled to run the first round of the 100 hurdles.
Ausman is seeded 19th in the discus with a mark of 176-10.75. The top 24 finishers after three throws will advance and receive three more throws to determine the final 12 qualifiers.
Almen is seeded 21st in the high jump at 5-9.25. Competition will cease once the 12 NCAA qualifiers are determined and no winner will be determined.
Collins is seeded 33rd in the 100 hurdles (13.46) and 23rd in the 400 hurdles (58.64). Anderson is seeded 38th in the 1500 (4:22.94). The top 24 placers in each event advance to the second round on Saturday.
