OSU Softball Ranked for Second Consecutive Week

CORVALLIS, Ore. – After posting a 2-2-1 record against a challenging tournament field at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., the Oregon State softball team has earned a ranking in the Softball Collegiate Top 25 for the second consecutive week, checking in at No. 24 on Tuesday.

The Beavers (16-4-1) received 61 votes en route to their No. 24 ranking, two votes behind No. 23 Notre Dame (16-3) and 38 votes ahead of No. 25 Texas (14-3).

Oregon State debuted in the polls last week tied at No. 22, marking the Beavers' first national ranking since April 2, 2013, when OSU was ranked No. 24 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll. Prior to this season, Oregon State was last ranked by the Softball poll on May 13, 2012, also at No. 24.

The Beavers have yet to be ranked by the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll, but are knocking on the door with 27 votes, the second-highest total of teams receiving votes outside of the poll other than Florida Atlantic (46).

Oregon State is one of six Pac-12 schools nationally ranked after four weeks of play, along with No. 7/8 Oregon (17-4), No. 8/7 Washington (16-3), No.14/16 UCLA (13-8), No. 18/20 Arizona (15-7) and No. 21/18 Arizona State (18-5).

By winning percentage, Oregon State's 16-4-1 record this season is edged among conference members only by Washington's 16-3 mark and Oregon's 17-4 record.

Last time out, Oregon State earned wins over North Carolina and Wisconsin by scores of 5-2 and 3-1, respectively. OSU fell only to then-No. 3/2 Michigan, 9-3, and then-No. 24/22 Baylor, 3-0, while tying then-No. 22/21 Fresno State, 6-6, in the Beavers' first tie in just over 15 years.

The Oregon State softball team plays its final non-conference tournament next weekend before Pac-12 play when the Beavers travel to Northridge, Calif. for the Matador Classic from March 11-13. Oregon State opens tournament play against Grand Canyon on Friday at 11 a.m. PT, and is set to face Toledo, San Diego and host CSUN twice..
