SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State catcher Logan Ice has been named the Pac-12 Conference's Player of the Week, commissioner Larry Scott announced on Tuesday.
Ice had a spectacular week for the Beavers as they took two over San Diego and one over William & Mary. The junior was 6-for-8 with a double, triple, two home runs and eight runs batted in. He also walked three times.
He punctuated his weekend with a 3-for-4 effort against William & Mary in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. He homered twice, including a three-run shot in the third, and also tripled in two runs to help guide OSU to a 12-3 win. He's the first player in the Pac-12 this season with a multiple home run game and his 11 total bases marks a season-best in the conference.
Ice, a sociology major from Puyallup, Wash., wasn't finished with game one. Entering in the fifth inning of game two as a pinch hitter, he proceeded to go 3-for-3 with a double, tallying 16 total bases on the day.
The weekend catapulted Ice to the top of many of the Pac-12's offensive categories. He leads the league in slugging percentage (.886), RBI (16), total bases (31) and triples (3), is tied for first with three home runs and is tied for second with a .429 batting average. He's also tied for second in opposing basestealers thrown out at four.
Ice and the Beavers return to Corvallis this weekend when hosting San Francisco for a three-game series at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The 2016 home opener is slated for 5:35 p.m. PT on Friday night. For tickets, visit BeaverTickets.com or call (800) GO-BEAVS between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
