FIU 4 OSU 1 Box Score
FULLERTON, Calif. -
The Oregon State softball team saw its season-high nine-game win streak come to an end on Sunday morning, the final day of the DeMarini Invitational in Fullerton, Calif., as the team lost a 4-1 contest to Florida International.
The result moves OSU's record to 17-5, still the club's best mark after 22 games since 2006 (20-2).
The first three frames unfolded as a pitcher's duel between Marina Demore and the Panthers' starter. No runs were scored in the first three innings and Demore set down nine in a row after surrendering a single to leadoff the game.
In the top of the fourth, FIU got on the board on a pair of back-to-back hits. A single and double scored the game's first run to stake the Panthers to a 1-0 lead.
Oregon State tied things up in the bottom of the fifth when Lea Cavestany led off the inning being hit by a pitch. She stole second, advanced to third on a groundout to the right side and came home to score on an RBI single by Hannah Bouska to make the score 1-1.
Each team held serve through the sixth, but Florida International put a three-spot up on the board in its half of the seventh and the Beavers couldn't muster a charge in the bottom part of the frame, clinching the 4-1 final.
OSU has one tournament remaining before the start of Pac-12 play. They team will be in Long Beach next weekend for games against North Carolina, Long Beach State, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Harvard.
