CORVALLIS - Oregon State took a 4-1 lead into the top of the seventh inning but a four run seventh for Washington as the Beavers fall in a heartbreaking loss to the No. 14 Huskies 5-4 on senior day.
The Beavers had a 4-1 lead going into the top of the seventh inning when the Huskies leadoff hitter reached base on a fielding error by the Beavers' shortstop Nikki Chandler. Consecutive infield singles load the bases with no outs.
The next batter reached base on a fielder's choice in which Oregon State third baseman Desire Beltran who threw out the runner at the plate for the first out. Oregon State pitcher Tina Andreana then hit the next batter on a 2-2 count to drive in a run cutting the Beavers' lead to 4-2.
Washington's Niki Williams then doubled over the left fielder's head for a bases clearing double driving in three runs and giving the Huskies a 5-4 lead. A lineout, hit by pitch, and pop out to short ended the inning for Washington in the seventh.
Beltran led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center field and was moved to second on a bunt single by Ashley Sanchez. Chandler tried to move the runners via the sacrifice bunt but made contact with the ball outside of the batter's box and was called out on batter interference for the first out of the inning.
Ally Kutz came up with one out in the inning and runners on first and second and lined out to the shortstop who doubled out Sanchez at first base to end the game.
Paige Hall started the game in the circle for the Beavers and gave up only one run on three hits before being taken out of the game after taking a line drive off the leg in the top of the fifth inning. She struck out two and walked two in the no decision.
The Beavers struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning when Chandler doubled in Beltran from second to take the early 1-0 lead.
After the Huskies tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning on a RBI single to right center, the Beavers came right back with two runs in the bottom of the third.
Erin Guzy walked to leadoff the third and moved to second on a McKenna Lowe groundout. Lea Cavestany then doubled in Guzy with a hit to left field. Senior Audrey Roderfeld then drove in Cavestany with a single through the right side to regain the lead at 3-1.
Roderfeld ended her final game of her collegiate career going 2-for-4 with a RBI. Fellow senior Lowe finished the game 1-for-3 in her appearance for Oregon State.
The Beavers added another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead which stayed the margin until the Huskies picked up the four runs in the top of the seventh to win the season finale 5-4.
Andreana pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief for the Beavers and gave up four earned runs on four hits and struck out two and was credited with the loss falling to 6-16 on the season.
Kaitlin Inglelsby threw the final 4 2/3 innings in relief for the Huskies and improved her record to 22-8 with the win.
