Tempe, Ariz. – The Oregon State volleyball team (14-12, 6-10 Pac-12) fell in three (25-23, 25-17, 25-10) on Saturday evening to Arizona State (6-19, 2-14 Pac-12) in Wells Fargo Arena.
“I thought the whole match depended on that first set a little bit,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We were up 16-12, and then we let it go in the sense of passing, digging and they got back into it. The last two nights our block has not been there. We're a much better blocking team than what we've shown. There were a lot of little mental errors on our side of the net – we need to control the ball better.
But hats off to Arizona State. They really played hard and well, and they dug, served and blocked the ball well. And they terminated. Our siding out really fell apart toward the end of the match, and that really hurt us.”
Offensively, senior Dre Shaw (Wailuku, Hawai'i) had 12 kills to lead the team with freshman Arica Nassar (Menifee, Calif.) backing her up with nine and a .438 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) had a team-high 17 digs, while four Beavers had one block each.
Arizona State's Ashley Kastl had a match-high 17 kills, while Stephanie Preach had 21 digs.
Oregon State returns home to host the Los Angeles schools next. The Beavers will face the No. 4 USC Women of Troy first on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
