Seattle, Wash. – The Oregon State volleyball team counted 70 digs, the most this season in a three-set match, but the Beavers (11-5, 3-3 Pac-12) fell to No. 3 Washington (13-1, 5-1 Pac-12) on Saturday evening in Alaska Airlines Arena.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-17, 27-25.

“I thought it was a great defensive effort, particularly if we compare tonight's match to yesterday's match,” head coach Taras Liskevych said. “We had 70 digs today – Becky [Defoe] had 28 in three sets and Martie [Massey] had 15 – so great effort on defending. Camille [Saxton] really worked hard with 57 attempts, but also in blocking with our three-person block that we used against them.

I still think we're looking at finding the right mix of another outside hitter until Dre Shaw is back because the outside hitters need to improve on their hitting numbers. Very good setting by Megan [McBride] and a great contribution by Niki Small in the third set.”

Sophomore Becky Defoe (Bend, Ore.) outdug Washington's libero, Jenna Orlandini, 28 to 26, while junior Martie Massey (Beaverton, Ore.) tallied 15 digs to Husky defensive specialist Kelly Holford's seven.

Offensively, junior Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) led all hitters with 14 kills with freshman Arica Nassar (Menifee, Calif.) adding seven.

Junior Megan McBride (Auburn, Wash.) was one dig shy of a double-double with 26 assists and a team-leading five blocks.

Washington's Kylin Munoz was the lone player to reach double-digits for kills with 10.

Oregon State returns home to Gill Coliseum next to host No. 6 Stanford on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Oregon State Notes – Junior Camille Saxton earned her second double-double of the season, fifth career, with 14 kills and 10 digs … Sophomore Becky Defoe was one dig off from tying the single-match school record for digs in a three-set match with 28 … Junior Martie Massey set a new career-high for digs with 15.
