Jan. 29, 2010

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Oregon State women's swim team picked up its first conference win of the season with a close 135.5-126.5 victory over rival Washington State Friday night in Pullman. Seniors Anna Crandall, Brittney Iverson and sophomore Jenni Dole all recorded two wins as the Beavers won eight of the 12 individual events.

"It's a really good feeling to come out of the meet with a win," Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said. "We expected it to be a close meet and we were able to keep them at bay. They finished first and second in the final relay but the meet was already decided by then. It was a very solid performance by our team."

The meet started the same way it finished, close. It started off with Oregon State (6-6 overall, 1-4 Pacific-10 Conference) and Washington State tying in the 200 yard medley relay both with times of 1:44.82.

Iverson swam the 1,000 yard freestyle for only the second time this season Friday and recorded her first win of the season in the event with a time of 10:25.56. She was not done and went on to win the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.62 for her ninth win of the season and the 21st of her career.

Dole swept the 100 and 200 yard backstroke for the second time this season with times of 56.44 and 2:03.89 which now gives her six wins this season and nine for her career.

Crandall came out victorious in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.95 which is 0.38 seconds off her season best time for the event. She also won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.19. Her win in the 100 butterfly is her first career win in the event.

Signe Larson won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.65 and Rachel O'Brien 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.97.

The Beavers finish their dual season when they take on Idaho Saturday Jan. 30 in Moscow, Idaho starting at 11 a.m.
