CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -
Adrienne Alo's walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted No. 22 ranked Oregon State to an 8-7 win over Wisconsin at the Palm Springs Classic late Friday night.
The Beavers improved to 7-6, while the Badgers dropped to 1-2.
OSU held a 5-0 lead after three innings, scoring all five runs on four Badger errors, but Wisconsin came back by scoring four runs off an OSU error in the fifth. Meghann Reiss added a solo home run in the sixth to tie the game 5-5.
After neither team scored in the seventh, the Wisconsin bats came out strong in the top of the eighth. The Badgers strung together three consecutive hits to score twice, but the Beavers countered with Alo's homer to win the game. With a runner on second in the international tiebreaker, Sherina Galvan walked to put two runners on base with one out for Alo, who responded with her third home run of the season.
Kelly Peterson hit 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored for OSU, which finished with eight hits.
Brianne McGowan, starting as the designated player, took over pitching duties for OSU in the sixth inning and earned the win to improve to 5-2. Wisconsin's Megan Smith fell to 0-1 after taking the loss in four-plus innings of relief.
The Beavers resume action at the Palm Springs Classic at 3:30 p.m. Saturday against University of Long Island. OSU will play Ohio State following that game.
