Anderson is the second Beaver in as many years to earn the honor
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State redshirt senior outfielder Jack Anderson has been named the Pac-12's 2018 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Â
Anderson is the second Beaver to earn the honor in as many years, following Max Engelbrekt in 2017. Engelbrekt was the first Oregon State player to be recognized since the then-Pac-10 created the award in 2008.
Â
A native of Lake Oswego, Ore., Anderson recently graduated with a major in kinesiology (3.71 GPA) and minor in business. He announced prior to the season that he will attend Regis University in Denver starting in August, pursuing a graduate degree in physical therapy.
Â
Anderson is a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, and twice was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 selection. He's served as the community service liaison for the Oregon State baseball program, and the Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He has been heavily involved in community service, from participating in Beavers Without Borders to volunteering at animal shelters, among many other events.
Â
Anderson has played in 56 games this season, starting 41, and is batting .275 with nine doubles, one triple and 13 runs batted in. He has drawn 19 walks and been hit by a pitch five times.
Â
From the Pac-12: In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility), on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport's regular season. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in the voting for the award.
