Beavers Fall on Senior Day
May 06, 2018 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior McKenna Arriola had a perfect day at the plate, but the Oregon State softball team fell in the series finale with No. 5/6 Washington on senior day at the OSU Softball Complex.
The Beavers fall to 26-26 overall and 7-14 in Pacific-12 Conference action. Meanwhile, the Huskies improve to 44-8 overall and 14-8 in the Pac-12.
Arriola had a day at the plate going 3-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, a run scored and a RBI in her last game inside the OSU Softball Complex. Freshman Missy Nunes had a 2-for-4 performance, while freshman Camryn Ybarra went 2-for-3.
Freshman Mariah Mazon made her 23rd start, but pitched just one inning giving up four runs of five hits.
Arriola opened things up for the Beavers in the bottom half of the first inning with a double that one-hopped off the center field wall, but OSU couldn't bring her home.
Oregon State threatened in the second inning after blanking the visitors. Nunes leadoff with a single down the right field line, and Michelle Sass followed that up with a single down the right field line. Ybarra laid down a bunt to advance the runners and beat out the throw loading the bags. The Beavers failed to bring anyone across.
OSU finally got on the board in the third inning. Standing on third base with two outs Arriola scored the first run for the Beavers after a passed ball.
The Huskies added one run in the top half of the fourth frame leading 5-1, but the Beavers added the final two runs of the day in the bottom half of the inning.
Singles from Ybarra and Jessica Garcia and a defensive error loaded the bases. A walk in the next at bat scored pinch runner Jessie Wilson. Arriola followed in the next at bat with a sac-fly to left field.
Meehra Nelson tossed 6.0 innings of relief giving up only four hits and one earned run, while striking out eight batters.
