Gymnasts Close Out Season with Season-End Banquet

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 2018 Oregon State gymnastics team gathered to celebrate its seniors and its achievements a final time Wednesday evening for the program's season-end banquet.

Junior McKenna Singley was recognized as the team's Most Valuable Gymnast. Singley made her debut in the all-around this year competing on all four events 10 times. In 2018, Singley led the Beavers with nine event titles, including the first of her career. She 'hit' 43 out of 45 routines this season and recorded career-high scores of 9.925 on the floor exercise, 9.900 on the balance beam and 9.875 on the vault.

Fellow junior Mary Jacobsen was honored with the Specialist of the Year award. Jacobsen competed on vault, bars and floor in all 12 meets in 2018 hitting 35 of her 36 routines. She scored personal-bests on all three events including tying her career-best with a 9.950 on the bars, and she established a new high with a 9.900 on the floor and 9.875 on vault en route to securing four event titles.

Freshman Kaitlyn Yanish received recognition as the Beavers' Newcomer of the Year. Yanish was a regular in three lineups – vault, beam and floor – hitting 31 out of 34 routines as a rookie. She secured seven event titles on the season with six on the floor and one on vault earning Regular Season All-America Second Team honors on floor by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) and second team All-Pac-12 honors. She set season-highs of 9.950 on floor, 9.850 on vault and 9.800 on the beam.

Alyssa Minyard and Destinee Davis were honored as the Most Improved Gymnasts on the squad. Minyard, a sophomore, found a role in the Beavers' bars and beam lineups in 2018 after not competing a single time as a freshman. Minyard earned a pair of event titles on the bars and set her personal-marks of 9.925 on the bars and 9.825 on the beam. She 'hit' 19 out of 20 routines on the season.

Davis, also a sophomore, experienced a breakout campaign in 2018 as the season went on, going from an alternate during the season's first meet to a key cog in three lineups by season's end. She finished second on the team with eight event titles (four on vault, three on beam and one on floor) and 'hit' 21 out of 22 routines. She recorded personal-bests of 9.900 on beam, 9.875 on vault and floor.

Sophomore Jaime Law was honored as the Most Dedicated in the Sports Performance Center. In addition, Law's positive attitude, strong work ethic and the encouragement she provides her team earned the recognition of her teammates as the Most Inspirational Gymnast.

On the academic side of the equation, Law was honored as the team's Academic MVP and Singley was recognized for Outstanding Academic Achievement for earning a 4.0 GPA during winter term. Law carries the team's highest GPA while studying design and innovation management with an option in interior design in OSU's Honors College.
