May 25, 2018 | Women's Track & Field
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Distance runners Nicole Goecke and Kristiane Width finished their seasons on Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships at Sacramento State University.
Goecke qualified for the finals after running a 2:07.84 in the preliminary round on Thursday. She placed 24th in the quarters, failing to advance to the NCAA Championships on June 7-9. The Brush Prairie, Wash. native ran a 2:10.87 on Friday night.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Width took an 11th place finish in her heat crossing the finish line in 10:24.28, placing 34th overall. She ran a personal best time in the event for her career at OSU. Her No. 2 all-time mark sits only behind junior Juliana Mount who was scheduled to run, but did not start.
Redshirt junior javelin specialist Destiny Dawson was the only competitor to advance to the NCAA Championships at Hayward field in Eugene in two weeks. She is just the third athlete since the track & field program's revival in 2005 to qualify for the championship event.
