Beavers Head South For NCAA Regional

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Distance runners Nicole Goecke and Colette Richter, steeple chasers Kristiane Width and Juliana Mount, and throwers Destiny Dawson, Delaney Hall and Kindel Bailey hit the road Wednesday as they head to the NCAA West Preliminary Championships at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State University.
The championship qualifier runs Thursday through Saturday, with the Beavers competing on the first two days of competition.
Junior Juliana Mount will be making her second appearance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the West regional. Mount placed 24th last year. Bailey will also be making her second regional appearance in as many years. Goecke, Width, Richter, Dawson and Hall will make their first postseason appearance.
Qualifiers from the West preliminary meet advance to the NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene on June 7-9. Each event features 48 competitors with the top 12 finishers in the Sacramento Regional and the top 12 from the Tampa Regional advancing to Eugene.

- Goecke will run in the 800 meters (2:06.59) on Thursday evening at 8:35 p.m. She is seeded 21st and has the second-best all-time time in OSU history. She graduated from Brush Prairie High School in Brush Prairie, Wash.
- Mount will run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night at 9 p.m. in the last track event of the night. She is seeded 38th, and is the current school record holder in the event. She is from Notre Dame High School in San Jose, Calif.
- Width will also run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday seeded 32nd in the event. She holds the second-best all-time mark in the event and hails from Oppegard, Norway and the United Nations International School.
- Richter will run in the final event of the night on Thursday at 9:40 p.m. in the 10,000 meters. She is seeded 44th (34:39.47), and is a graduate student originally from Mountain Lakes, N.J.
- Dawson is one of three who will throw in the javelin, which starts at noon on Thursday, and is seeded 16th (168-11). She is the current school record holder and the highest seeded of the Beavers. Dawson is from Cottage Grove High School in Cottage Grove, Ore.
- Hall will also throw in the javelin seeded 31st with her season-best throw of 156-2. She is No. 2 on the OSU all-time list from Lakeview High School in Lakeview, Ore.
- Baily rounds out the field in the javelin making her second appearance at the regional. She is seeded 48th (149-7.25) and hails from Banks High School in Banks, Ore.
