Beavers Drop Regional Opener to Badgers in Extras

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Beavers had a late lead, but the Oregon State softball team fell to Wisconsin in extra innings in the opening round of the Tuscaloosa Regional on Friday night at Rhoads Stadium, 9-3.
The Beavers fall to 28-27 on the season, meanwhile the Badgers improve to 29-21.
Senior first basemen Alysha Everett drove in all the runs for OSU going 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and a home run. Senior third basemen/second basemen McKenna Arriola added a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored, one triple and one double.
Meehra Nelson got the nod starting in the circle for the Beavers. Nelson threw 7.0 innings in the no decision with three earned runs and 10 strikeouts, her most since March 2. Mariah Mazon (11-17) threw 1.0 innings in the loss for OSU.
The Beavers were on the board first following a three strikeout inning from Nelson in the top of the first. Arriola led the game off for OSU with a triple to left field, two batters later Everett picked up her first RBI of the night on a single up the middle.
OSU blanked UW in the second and third innings with Nelson picking up her 4th and 5th strikeouts in nine batters faced.
Everett put two more runs up for Oregon State in the third inning behind a two-run home run over the right field wall. She now sits at five homers on the year, the third-most on the roster. Â
Blanked again in the fourth inning, Wisconsin broke the shutout in the fifth inning with a two-run homer off the scoreboard in left field. Oregon State had two runners on in the sixth inning, but couldn't take advantage.
With two outs in the top of the seventh inning the Badgers got the game equalizer off an RBI single following three-straight walks.
In top of the 8th inning the Badgers put up six runs winning the game by a final of 9-3. Â
Up Next
The Beavers are back in action on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. PT, and will play the loser of No. 13 Alabama and Middle Tennessee State University. Â
