Oregon State opens spring play with three-straight wins
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men's soccer team is off to a hot start in its spring season, earning victories in three-straight contests, including winning the Northwest Cup.
The Beavers topped Portland 2-1 in the opening match of the Northwest Cup, which was held at Portland's Merlo Field. Don Tchilao opened the scoring in the second half, dribbling around a pair of Pilot defenders in the box, before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. Oregon State doubled its advantage a short time later, as newcomer Gloire Amanda got on the scoresheet. Joel Walker set up the score with a cross from the right side, setting up Amanda's header from the edge of the six-yard box. The Pilots were able to pull one back in the closing minutes, before the Beavers closed out the win.
Oregon State completed the perfect week with a 2-0 victory over Gonzaga. Walker put the Beavers in front, firing a shot into the roof of the net off a feed from Tchilao. Amanda netted his second goal of the weekend in the second half, rolling one past the keeper following a pass from Eric Diaz. Oregon State closed out the clean sheet to lock down the two-goal win.
The Beavers also notched a 2-0 win over Corban to round out its 3-0 start to spring play.
Oregon State will return to action Saturday, when it hosts Southern Oregon at 4 p.m. The Beavers will follow that up by facing Seattle U at Lorenz Field on April 28 at 3 p.m.
