Lu Goes Low At The Goodwin
March 30, 2018 | Men's Golf
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Shawn Lu fired a 6-under 65 to lead the Oregon State men's golf team in the second round of The Goodwin on Friday.
Â
Lu, a sophomore from Honolulu, Hawai'i, had six birdies in his bogey-free round to move 52 spots up the leaderboard and into ninth place with a 4-under 73-65--138.
Â
He finished in a career-best tie for fifth place at the Duck Invitational earlier this week. His best career round is a 7-under 64 at the Saint Mary's Invitational this past fall.
Â
As a team, the Beavers moved up four spots and into a tie for 10th place in the 26-team field with a 5-over 290-283--573 at the par-71, 7,143-yard TPC Harding Park.
Â
Sophomore Kyosuke Hara was also sensational in the second round, posting a 3-under 68 that included six birdies. He moved 43 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 18th place with a 1-under 73-68--141.
Â
"It is fun to watch these guys compete," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "To go around Harding Park without a bogey by Shawn is very impressive and Kyosuke was right there with him to the end.
Â
"As a team we've played our way into the afternoon wave tomorrow and now it's important we just keep doing what has got us here and that's smart, discipline golf."
Â
Freshman Spencer Tibbits (71-76) and junior Trevor Yu (73-74) are tied for 72nd place with a 5-over 147 and freshman Keaton Gudz is tied for 126th with a 13-over 75-80--135.
Â
No. 9 Oklahoma (20-under 548) has a five-stroke lead over No. 11 California (15-under 553) for the team title and Oregon's Norman Xiong (12-under 130) has a four-stroke advantage over Stanford's Jeffrey Swegle (8-under 134) for the individual crown.
Â
There will be a double shotgun in Saturday's final round, starting with the morning wave on the first and 10th tees at 7:30 a.m. and the afternoon group at 12:20 p.m. The Beavers will start at 12:25 p.m. and be paired with San Francisco and Washington.
